Caps Rangers 032413 DL 2Nicklas Backstrom picked up a goal and an assist in the first 9:45 of the first period Sunday night, before winning the game for Washington in the fourth round of a shootout in New York. The Capitals prevailed 3-2 over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden, the team's third road victory in a row. The Caps sit two points behind the Rangers for eighth in the Eastern Conference as play starts Monday, and five back of first place Winnipeg in the Southeast Division with a game in hand. 

Washington is at home Tuesday, as the New York Islanders come to Verizon Center for the first time this season. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m.
