Ultimate Highlight: Caps and Rangers, through six games

May 13, 2013

The 2013 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals between Washington and New York began as a best-of-seven series. Following two home wins by the Capitals and a pair of victories at Madison Square Garden by the Rangers, the series was shaved down to a best-of-three.

Now, it's just a best-of-one. Win or go home. Do or die.

In a thrilling night of hockey television for most of the country, and sheer terror for fans in D.C., New York, Toronto, and Boston, two Game 7's will determine which teams will face one another in an Eastern Conference Semifinal series starting later this week. The Capitals could face Boston or Toronto. The same can be said for New York. The only certainty as we edge toward puck drop this evening in both Washington and Boston is that two teams will advance, and two will head off into summer, wondering what might have been.

Before Washington's Game 7 began last year in Boston, studio and intermission host Ben Raby assembled an audio "Ultimate Highlight", featuring all the highs and lows of the six games that came before. After Joel Ward's heroics in overtime, we added Game 7 highlights to the package, and played it at the start of the next round. Being the superstitious sort, we thought we'd better do that again.

Here is Ben's work from this series, capturing all the moments from the radio booth and the locker room, as we head toward tonight's Game 7. We hope you enjoy the listen back, and hope we will have more memories to share at the beginning of the next round.
