The Capitals took a 2-1 lead into the final period Monday in Philly, but watched it evaporate as the Flyers scored twice to take a 3-2 lead. But Ryan Stoa, who scored 11 goals for Hershey last season, scored for the big club with 21.7 seconds left in regulation with goaltender David Leggio on the bench. The two teams battled into overtime and into the shootout, where the most unlikely of shootout heroes emerged. Joel Rechlicz, known for dropping the mitts with authority, was put out in the bottom of the fourth round by head coach Adam Oates. Rechlicz then scored against Ray Emery to push Washington to victory.
For the record, Rechlicz has three goals. In his professional life. Dating back to 2007.
It was the best shootout I've ever had the privilege of watching. An amazing moment for a terrific guy, even if it was only preseason. Hear it below, and enjoy. I know I did.
