Off-Season chatter for August 13

Capitals Radio Network
It's just about time for the last stop outside the Beltway for me before the new season starts. After this week's Caps Report, I'm off to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois and Wisconsin over the next couple of weeks to catch up with those I don't see much of during the course of hockey season. But before I go, a few notes and nuggets for you here at CV, including a few housekeeping bits.

-The Caps will play eight preseason games during September, and all eight will be carried via the Capitals Radio Network. The over-the-air broadcast schedule hasn't been finalized yet, but it looks like the September 25 game against Nashville will air on both 106.7 and 1500 locally. The rest might be online only (Nationals have games at almost all the same times as the Caps in September), but this is a good time to download the Caps Mobile App if you haven't already. All games can be heard as well on and both in the preseason and during the regular year. Game one of the preseason is one month from tomorrow, Saturday, September 14 in Belleville, Ontario against the Winnipeg Jets.

-I was very happy to see Tampa Bay hire former Denver University and Miami University head coach George Gwozdecky as an assistant under Jon Cooper late last week. George gave me my very first chance to call hockey games, about a hundred years ago in Oxford, Ohio, when he allowed our student radio station to travel on the team bus to away games. That was a kindness I won't ever forget, and it started me on the road to Washington way back when. Looking forward to saying hello to him when the Caps and Bolts get together January 9 in central Florida.

-Had fun with Mike Vogel last week on the Caps Report breaking down our views and opinions of the Atlantic Division teams for 2013-14. We're going to do the same this week with the Central Division tomorrow before we take a week off next week. If you've got questions for us, throw them our way either at @VogsCaps or @WaltonCaps on Twitter, or via email at this week.

It won't be quiet for too much longer. Hope you're enjoying these final days of summer, and we'll be cranking it up here just after Labor Day weekend when the boys start coming back into town.
